Russia doesn’t seem to be interested in making any friends these days.
Last week, a British Defense Minister said taking preventive action against Russia with nuclear weapons was not completely off the table.
Russian senior politician Frants Klintsevich had a very powerful response. He claimed the U.K. “would be literally wiped off the face of the Earth by a counter-strike.”
Michael Fallon, the British Defense Minister who made the initial comments, was on a U.K. radio show and elaborated on his initial statement.
Fallon said, “In the most extreme circumstances, we’ve made it very clear that you can’t rule out the use of nuclear weapons as a first strike. The whole point about the deterrent is that you have got to leave uncertainty in the mind of anybody who might be thinking of using weapons against this country.”
When asked for a response to the Russian politicians statement, Fallon said, “In the best case this statement can be seen as a form of psychological warfare, which in this context is particularly disgusting.”
The U.K. is one of the United State’s main allies and member of NATO. The U.S. has recently seen tensions rise between themselves and Russia, with threats from both sides. It appears Russia is not afraid of any country, now threatening America’s allies. While the North Korean problem is currently at the front of the Trump Administration’s agenda, Russia should not be forgotten.
