With House Majority Whip Steve Scalise still recovering from his gunshot wounds, MSNBC host Joy Reid wasted no time criticizing the injured congressman. Although she tried to convince people that Scalise is a hypocrite, Reid only hurt herself.
Reid posted on Twitter, “Rep. #Scalise was shot by a white man with a violent background, and saved by a black lesbian police officer, and yet..”
Crystal Griner, a gay Capitol police officer, reportedly stopped the shooter, James Hodgkinson, and was subsequently shot in the ankle. As such, Reid tried to criticize Reid for being socially conservative.
“If a lesbian person saved your life, you should not go forward being homophobic,” Reverend Dr. William Barber, the guest of the show, stated. “If you almost died, but your life was saved because you got health care, then you should apply that ethic and want everybody else to get that same health care that you have.”
Barber continued by questioning conservatives for acting against the teachings of the Bible because of their opposition to same-sex marriage and Obamacare. However, Scalise’s wife released a statement on behalf of the family which pointed out that Scalise considered the police officers to be family.
In response, Twitter fired back at Reid for her absurdity.
For example, Conservative Stephen Miller from @RedSteeze wrote on Twitter “He’s not even conscious yet. What the f**k is wrong with you?”
The hospital announced that Scalise’s condition is not considered “serious” as opposed to “critical.” On Saturday, he was able to speak with members of his family. On Sunday, he watched his former university, compete in the College World Series.
