Just minutes after Maxine Waters (D-Calif.) criticized Tucker Carlson on MSNBC, the Fox News host reacted on his own show.
In an interview with MSNBC host Joy Reid, Waters spoke about a report that Carlson had previously joked about with Larry Elder that Waters would potentially run for president in 2020.
Waters announced to the Daily Caller that she would run for president if young voters “want” her.
“I’m just going up to do a county Democratic thing. That’s all,” Waters reported. “I’m not running for anything but my own seat. I don’t have any presidential aspirations. If the millennials want me to do it, I’d do it, though.”
Carlson and Elder chuckled at the thought of Waters being a real candidate in the next election since she has repeatedly declared to impeach President Trump.
Waters was offended by Carlson’s comments but while speaking with Reid, she rejected the claim that she would ever run for the White House. Instead, she claimed Carlson made it up.
“They made up this story,” Waters exclaimed. “They are trying every way they can to discredit me, to make people uncomfortable with me…so you’re gonna be hearing a lot more from these people, who are all, you know, aligned with trying to discredit Maxine Waters.”
“Don’t believe anything they’re saying,” she declared.
Just four minutes after Waters made those statements, Carlson cut off a segment he was doing on his show to respond directly to Waters.
Carlson showed what Waters said and then started hysterically laughing.
“I just, I just had to play it, I couldn’t help myself,” Carlson stated while chuckling “because of course, Maxine Waters is self-discrediting.”
“Why does Maxine Waters get to go on cable channels and no one ever mentions her ethical problems, the fact that she lives in a $4.5 million house after working for the government for 40 years, et cetera,” Carlson questioned.
“They’re super-hyper skeptical of everything Trump says and then they’re not skeptical at all of anything that Maxine Waters says,” he continued.
